Re: Team for Everton
The team picks itself now. Probably the OP team will be the one. Hopefully Coufal is fit because Fred is talentless on the ball.

Not getting the clamour for Areola, Fabianski hasn't done much wrong at all and Areola has looked steady but unspectacular apart from the first half in Zagreb where he looked fucking dodgy and whenever the ball is in the air - he has an aversion to catching the cunt.

Calling for Ogbonna to be dropped is fucking ridiculous at this early stage and I'd probably stick with Zouma who has looked decent to me. We've looked a bit shakier defensively but I attribute that to us not being as dominant in the centre of midfield where Soucek looks knackered and is playing a less than ideal role of holding while Rice headlessly legs it up field because someone told him he might get paid a tenner more if he scored goals. Need to switch those two around or bring in Kral who is more accustomed to holding. Or all three.

Front four are obvious Charlie Hussle 1 and 2, twinkle toes and Antonio. Dont want to see Yarmolenko despite his stellar international performances - he's never done it for us.

Thought we were well on top against Brentford and extremely unlucky to lose, a draw would be acceptable in this one but we need to be having a go at this lot.

Re: Team for Everton
Might be worth Coufal being given a little more time to recover from his slight injury and playing Fredericks if Richarlison and Calvert-Lewen play ( which now sounds likely). Why? Given Fredericks past habit of playing like he has 50p pieces in the toes of his boots? Well, he was excellent in both games he played before the freak injury at OT in the league cup game ( fell down the dip behind the goal when making that run to set up Lanzini for the winner) and made 2 goals already and his pace will be so handy against the likes of Richarlison etc. and he gives us pace in the final third.

But Moyes is conservative ( small c) and I suspect it will be the same team aside from Diop maybe replacing Oggy as Moyes always wants his CBs to be the best he has and on games this season young Diop has been impressive.

Opinions eh? We shall see on Sunday.

Zouma has cost us goals and points already but people want ogbonna dropped

A real seven pointer, given our record against Everton, keeping it tight and aiming for a one nil defeat sounds like a plan to me

Re: Team for Everton
If we play as badly in the first 20/25 minutes as we did against Brentford we will lose. Need to be fully focused for 95 minutes.

"Thought we were well on top against Brentford"

I dont know about that. We battled hard in the 2nd half. But they'd done a number on us really.
In fact, in the last few games we dont really look comfortable. We shouldn't have to play out of our skin to get points.

something isn't right.

Re: Team for Everton
I would be shocked if the team contained both fabs and ogbonna

I would start either Dawson/diop on the right and put zouma in his natural position on the left

Fabs is a 50/50 for me

Re: Team for Everton
Think the OP has this spot on. Can't see a change unless there is an injury. Vlasic might have a point to prove if he comes on.
Zouma for me so far has been a bit wasteful with the ball and is caught out of position too much. He needs time to settle into the team and adapt to how his team mates play. e.g. don't disappear into midfield if Coufal has gone forward and leave a big gap to exploit.

Everton always a struggle to beat and I expect this to be no different. We really need our players to be up for it and to put away whatever opportunities we make.

Calvert Lewin and Richarlison are definitely out according to Rafa

Re: Team for Everton
So one or two injuries after the internationals according to Moyes. Wouldn't reveal who but obviously from Rice, Soucek, Bemrahma, Vlasic and Yarmolenko. The preferred options pick themselves

Re: Team for Everton
Agree OP if fit...
Appropriate subs early on around 70mins as needed...
Especially for international players...
Wake up Moyes...88th minute subs not good enough...fresh legs...new ideas...early on...
It's a long season...

Re: Team for Everton
The thing about Fabianski is due to his age his mobility is less. The first Brentford goal a younger keeper would of done better,he was that fraction of a second getting up from the initial shot.Keepers practice this all the time in training.
Time for Areloa to earn his contract and no 1 role. He's not going to earn it biting his nails through his gloves on the bench.
Johnson is still a better bet at right back.Fredericks is still not good enough. I hope Ashby gets a chance soon as he looks the better of all three of them.Maybe some minutes in one of the Genk games.

Fornals says we will cause Everton problem.
In just about every quote on whufc.com he says he is happy. Excellent stuff.
I’ve put him in my fantasy team.

Re: Team for Everton
Areola for Fabianski would be harsh. Areola’s distribution is better but he hasn’t done anything special so far versus Fabianski hasn’t done too much wrong and has been mostly solid since he signed. It will happen at some point - at the latest at the start of next season - but while you could say why wait for Fabianski to make a big mistake there is no saying he will, and only a very small sample to say that Areola would do any better. Fabianski is the player in possession of the shirt and we have to show some faith.

Apart from spells, Ogbonna has only ever looked decent in a three. I’m a big advocate of having a left footer at centre half but on form for some time now you would have to pick Dawson, alongside Zouma as a new addition who is clearly quality. In a back four, the full backs pick themselves.

Unless you make a big change with Kral, Rice, and Soucek then I don’t see the advantage in midfield of going to five at the back. It would probably still be Rice, Soucek, and Fornals in a 5-3-2 which is no different in practice to the central three in a 4-2-3-1. And getting overrun in midfield is our big issue recently, so whilst it may need addressing I don’t think weakening it is the answer.

A 3-4-3 (which would quickly become a 5-2-3) would be suicidal. A 3-5-2/ 5-3-2 would put Bowen out of position and effectively swap Benrahma for Masuaku which would be a downgrade - as average as Benrahma was last time out, Moyes doesn’t seem to trust Masuaku and most fans would be in agreement I suspect. And Bowen is much better out wide than up front.

The only possible tweak I see is going back to the 4-4-2 diamond from back in the Sakho/ Valencia days. But even then without a proper second striker you are putting round pegs into square holes, and putting a lot on the full backs in terms of providing width:

Fabianski/ Areola

Coufal
Zouma
Dawson/ Ogbonna
Cresswell

Kral

Rice
Soucek

Fornals

Bowen
Antonio
